Free Drupal Hosting and Maintenance, can open-source be the solution?

Running a Drupal site without active development costs money because of all the site-maintenance needed to update Drupal modules and Drupal core. The only option right now is to pay developers, who charge a very high rate to update and test your site. And lets be honest...

  • The developer does not want to spend time updating or hosting a drupal site when there is no active work happening
  • The client doesn't want to pay lots of money for just having a website

So what are the options? There are not many right now. Let's brainstorm about technological options to empower people running Drupal sites to maintain the site themselves and to free developers to work on bigger, more creative problems!

Drupal is great because its open-source and free, why can't we make the process of running a Drupal site also open-source and free?!
